Gastronomy in Périgord

From vine to plate, the Bergerac region invites you to a festival of the senses: discover an exceptional terroir where AOC wines and Périgord gastronomic treasures – black truffles, foie gras, fragrant strawberries – combine to enchant your taste buds.

Local produce

The Périgord region is renowned for its fine produce and gastronomy.

In Bergerac, it’s at the various markets that the excellence of good food comes to the fore. Many producers are present, offering dried duck breast, confits, rillettes, goose or duck grattons…

Truffles are also present, as is Enchaud du Périgord, a specialty of pork roasted in goose fat. For cheese, focus on Cabécou, a small cheese made from raw goat’s milk.

And on the dessert side, the stars are the Noix du Périgord cake (PDO) and (all) the desserts based around the Fraise du Périgord (IGP). Of course, market gardeners, honey producers and other artisan bakers are also on hand, many of whom have gone organic.

Practical info: markets

A real meeting place, traditional markets are an essential part of life in Périgord. Local produce, wines, wicker baskets, books – you’re sure to find something to treat yourself or to give as a gift.
