The Bergerac Conurbation Community

Several typical south-western villages form the perimeter of our geographical area. Proudly bearing names with typical south-western sounds, such as Monbazillac or Queyssac… Here, we pronounce all the consonants, sometimes with a lilting accent on the last letters!

Historical anecdote

In the south-west of France, many towns and villages end in “ac”: this suffix comes from the Latin “-acum”, itself derived from the Gallic “-acos”, and designates the space corresponding to an owner’s domain. Marking the ancient location of a specific geographical object, a Gallic farm or a Gallo-Roman villa, these toponyms are very often built from an anthroponym, and must be interpreted as a domain associated with the designated person.

The Montaigne Montravel Gurson community of communes

Nearby, the partner region of Montaigne Montravel et Gurson, comprising 18 communes and 12,000 inhabitants, offers visitors the chance to continue their discovery of the area.

Highlights include the bastide town of Villefranche-de-Lonchat and Lac de Gurson, where it’s great to take a dip if you’re visiting on a hot summer’s day.
